Chappy is a delightful 3-year-old sheepdog with a zest for life and an abundance of love to give. Currently enjoying the comforts of a foster home in Scottsdale, AZ, Chappy is on the lookout for his forever family who can keep up with his playful spirit and energetic nature.
Chappy is always ready for fun and games. He loves the company of other dogs and would thrive in a home with a furry friend to guide him. With his silly antics and loving demeanor, Chappy is sure to bring smiles and laughter. He adores cuddling and will happily snuggle up for some cozy time.
Chappy’s journey began in El Paso, where he was found in rough conditions, neglected and confined outside in a small dog run. A compassionate realtor and a determined couple stepped in, ultimately negotiating his rescue by purchasing the home to secure his freedom. Soon thereafter, the family decided that Chappy was not right for them, so they reached out to Red River. Chappy is ready to start a new chapter with a loving family.
Chappy would do best in a patient and experienced home that can provide guidance and training. Everything is new to him, but he’s quick to learn. He currently shares his foster home with three other Old English Sheepdogs (two males, ages 2 and 6, and one female, age 6), and he enjoys their company. His behavior around cats is unknown.
Chappy is great on a leash and can walk for miles. He knows how to use a doggy door, and is eager to learn new things. Chappy loves to be by your side, ensuring he’s always part of the action. Despite his size (55 pounds), he believes he’s a lap dog and loves snuggling up close.
His goofy personality shines through when he gets excited, bringing joy to everyone around him. Chappy is a loving, energetic dog who is ready to bring joy and companionship to the right family. If you’re looking for a loyal friend with a playful spirit, Chappy could be the perfect addition to your home. Give Chappy a chance to show you just how wonderful life with a sheepdog can be!

Pickles is the dopey, sweet one. He's very young acting, and he wants to be physically touching either a person or dog at all times. He definitely follows what other dogs do, too, and is constantly looking for approval from someone. He also doesn't have the strongest grasp on what's playing and what is annoying to other dogs, lol. But, that lack of inhibition serves him well come play time. He is definitely the velcro-y-est of the three (you might say needy, though in a very sweet way), even though they're all sheepdogs and love to be around you.

She was so weak she could barely stand. It took several weeks for her to gain back her strength and weight, but today she is a healthy, happy girl with no known health issues.
Pumpkin loves attention and spending time with people. She can be a bit shy at first but warms up quickly. Pumpkin has a lot of energy and loves to play. She does well on a leash and likes to go for walks. Some loud noises will startle her but she is learning they will not hurt her.
Pumpkin likes other dogs but she is guarded at first and will need time to feel safe around them. Once she feels safe she enjoys playing and running with them. Pumpkin likes children of all ages but small children make her nervous.
Pumpkin is housebroken, crate trained, and very smart. She is quick to learn but needs someone patient who understands the neglect and hurt she has gone through. Someone who will give her time to adjust to a new life without pain and suffering.

*What is hip dysplasia?
Hip dysplasia is a condition that occurs during the growth stage in dogs. It results in the loosening of the hip joint, which causes dysfunction and pain. As the dog grows, the cartilage and bone of the hip begin to wear down. Over time, this causes arthritis, muscle atrophy, and limited mobility. It most commonly affects large-breed dogs, and research shows that it is hereditary.
*What is FHO surgery?
FHO is the abbreviation for (Femoral Head Ostectomy). This is the surgical removal of the head and neck of the femur. In simpler terms, it is the removal of the “ball” part of the ball-and-socket that makes up the hip joint. This way, the bones of the joint are no longer in contact, which eliminates the pain that is caused by the abnormal contact of the bones due to hip dysplasia.
*What Are the Signs of Hip Dysplasia in Dogs and Puppies?
Although hip dysplasia in dogs may sometimes go undetected, common signs include:
Chronic or occasional lameness
Limping with no previous trauma or injury
Cracking and popping sounds from joints
“Bunny hopping” when running
Having trouble standing
Abnormal sitting positions
Having trouble getting on and off furniture, going upstairs, or jumping into cars
Dogs can be very stoic and may not show all of these clinical symptoms. However, this condition is very painful, regardless of whether your dog has symptoms.

This special little one is Maggie. She is a 12 week old sheepdog puppy who is paralyzed from the waist down. Maggie has been seen by numerous doctors, and what we know is that her L3 and L4 vertebrae have been shattered. Her spine was inflamed and she was on a anti inflammatory/pain medication, but she is doing great and they are no longer needed.
We do not know what happened to Maggie, but she was not born this way. The doctors think it is possible Maggie’s sheepdog mom might have picked her up and shook her causing the damage. It is doubtful we will ever know what happened, but the damage is permanent and can not be fixed by surgery. Maggie will never have the use of her back legs.
Maggie is an adorable sheepdog puppy with a big future ahead of her. She is a feisty adorable girl who finds fun in everything around her. Maggie has no idea she is handicapped. Her disability does not stop her from being a happy, bouncy, sheepdog puppy.
If you are interested in adopting Maggie it is important to understand the challenges you will face everyday with a disabled dog.
1. Maggie has both urinary and bowel incontinence. Maggie wears diapers, and will for the rest of her life.
2. Maggie scoots across the floor favoring one side. In time it is very likely she will begin to develop sores on her pressure points such as her hip/upper leg area due to her dragging across the floor. The sores are similar to bed sores seen in humans who are bedridden. It is important to check Maggie daily in hopes to avoid this from happening as much as possible. Once sores start to begin they are incredibly difficult to heal.
3. Maggie only weighs 25 pounds now, but her parents were 85 pounds. We do not know how much Maggie will weigh when she is fully grown, but 50 pounds is a good guess. Though it is easy to pick Maggie up now, it will not be as easy when she gets older and becomes bigger.
4. While the wheelchair looks adorable it is not to be used 24/7. The wheelchair is to be used in small increments in order to avoid the development of sores. If you are going somewhere and want to take her than absolutely bring the wheelchair and put her in it. Just remember she can not stay in a wheelchair for long periods of time.
5. Diapers are not only expensive but challenging as when she scoots across the floor she pulls right out of them. We are checking into different ways in which to keep this from happening but have not quite found anything that works consistently. (We have tried suspenders by themselves, ruffle panties with suspenders attached, Velcro diapers to put over regular diapers, and baby onesies) What seems to work best is a harness with mitten clips attaching the diaper to the harness.
Caring for a handicapped dog can be difficult in the beginning, but as time goes by it will become less challenging and you will be so incredibly grateful to have such a special sheepdog in your life.
If you would like more information about Maggie please email us at~ Redriveroesrescue@gmail.com

This adorable girl is Penny a.k.a "Luna". Penny entered our rescue in November. She was taken to the vet where she was diagnosed with entropion in both eyes. "Entropion is an ocular condition that causes the eyelids to roll inward. This makes the eyelashes and other hair around the eyes rub on the cornea which causes irritation. Entropion is very painful and left untreated leads to conjunctivitis, infections and ulcers" Penny recently had surgery to correct this. Sadly it worked on one eye, but not the other. Because the surgery did not work on both eyes we were referred to a specialist. The specialist told us Penny needs another surgery to correct the other eye. This surgery is estimated to be around $2,300 to $2,600. We hope to be able to raise the money for this much needed surgery and are asking for your help. Please consider donating towards Penny's care or purchasing something from our store as all proceeds go towards the dogs in our rescue. Thank you!

Blue has one blue eye and one brown eye while Bo has two brown eyes. The boys are siblings and have never been separated. They will need to be adopted together. Blue & Bo are in Decatur, Texas.

This blue eyed beauty is Blue. He was found wandering the streets of an industrial area in Dallas, Texas. On January 1st he was hit by a vehicle. We were contacted by the people who saw him get hit.
Once we found him he was taken to a vet where x-rays were done, and he was checked from head to paw. We are thrilled to say he does not have any broken bones, and is safe and doing well.
Blue has two beautiful blue eyes. He is approximately 1 year old, has a tail, and thinks he’s a lap dog. He weighs 68 pounds. He was a matted mess but is looking great now. Once he has been fully vetted he will be available for adoption.

This beautiful girl is Twinkle. She is approximately 1 1/2 years old and is located in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Twinkle is a very sweet girl who does well with older children. She can be with other dogs, but she is a dominate female and does not like sharing her toys, or humans with them. It would be best if she was the only dog in the home.
Twinkle gets super excited when you take her for a walk, but after a few minutes she calms down and does great. She is almost housebroken, likes riding in cars, and loves to cuddle.
